EdTech in the Cloud: Feasibility Study Results
The completion of the OXR Hub’s feasibility study of the effectiveness of EdTech in the Cloud
The completion of the OXR Hub’s feasibility study of the effectiveness of EdTech in the Cloud, a VR app aimed at bridging attainment gaps experienced by disadvantaged secondary students in Years 8-11 when learning English literature, has yielded promising results. After completing assessments both before and after using the app, our results showed that 63.41% of the 41 participants (n = 26) improved their assessment scores, with an average increase of 1.39 out of a possible 8 points. Decreased post-test scores were shown by 5 participants (12.20%) and 10 participants (24.39%) showed no change in their score. It is worth noting that of the students that showed no change in their scores, 3 (30%) had scored a perfect score of 8 points on their pre-tests, leaving no opportunity for improvement. Further, students’ writing demonstrated more focused and accurate answers on the post-test as compared to the pre-test. Full results of the study can be seen here in the research team’s paper detailing the rationale, app development, study design, and outcome measures. With these encouraging outcomes, the research team is preparing for Phase 2 of the project, which will entail testing in classrooms in three Oxfordshire schools.
