Oxford X-Reality Hub Photogrammetry Report 2022
What is Photogrammetry?
Photogrammetry is the technique of extracting 3D information from photographs. The process involves taking overlapping photographs of an object, structure or space and converting them into 3D digital models. These models can then be used for a variety of purposes from viewing on the web, interacting within a game engine, 3D printing and preservation.
Statistics of projects
The Photogrammetry trial run by the Oxford X-Reality Hub started in April 2021 as University members started returning to on-site work, after the pandemic lockdowns. As this was a gradual process, the number of scans also gradually increased. The trial was run through the Bodleian Libraries by Richard Smith. The trial was conducted with a limited amount of marketing due to resources and to allow time for improvement of the service.
