On 8 October 2024, Mattia Montanari, of the Oxford X-Reality Hub delivered a training session at Utrecht University, The Netherlands. This session, geared towards students on the Research Master in the History of Art, showcased the use of the engine Unity in the creation of immersive experiences, for museum audiences. Students were introduced to the core features of Unity, learning how to build 3D scenes, navigate a 3D environment, create and animate game objects. This powerful engine, which underpins many of the cutting-edge immersive exhibits for museums and heritage sites, provided the students with valuable hands-on experience. By delving into the fundamentals of game design, the session introduced students to the possibilities that such tools offer for the creation of new interactive and engaging experiences for art and culture. This continues the OXR’s tradition of innovating training and commitment to sharing expertise both within Oxford and beyond.
